Rooting a HMD device follows the same core path as most Android phones: enable OEM Unlocking in Developer Options, unlock the bootloader over fastboot, then flash a Magisk-patched boot (or init_boot) image to gain systemless root that can still pass Play Integrity. HMD does not run a high-profile unlock program like Xiaomi's Mi Unlock or Samsung's Knox, so unlock availability comes down to the exact model, region, and firmware — many HMD handsets expose the standard OEM Unlocking toggle and unlock cleanly, while some carrier or budget variants ship locked.

Before rooting any HMD phone, back up everything — unlocking the bootloader performs a full factory reset on nearly every device — and confirm your exact model number and regional firmware. Root unlocks system-wide ad blocking, complete backups, bloatware removal, custom ROMs, and kernel-level performance and battery tuning, though it can affect banking apps and warranty until reversed.
